COMMON SIGNS

Appear to be malnourished

Show signs of physical injuries and/or abuse

Avoids eye contact, social interaction, especially with figures of authority and law enforcement

Seem to adhere to scripted or rehearsed responses in social interactions

Lack official identification documents

Appear to be destitute and/or lacking personal possessions

Work excessively long hours

Live at their place of employment

Check into hotels/motels with older males

Refers to older male companions as "boyfriend" or "daddy"

Show poor physical or dental health

Have tattoos and/or branding on the neck or lower back

Have untreated sexually transmitted diseases

Are small children serving in a family restaurant

Are security measures that appear to keep people inside an establishment

Not being allowed to go into public alone or to speak for themselves
